What is a Dental Implant?
A dental implant is a titanium screw used to support crowns, bridges or dentures. It can replace one or several teeth and even a fully edentulous mouth. Normally, after placing an implant, a healing phase of two months is needed to have a tight bond between the bone and the implant. After this period, a ceramic crown will then be fixed onto the implant and a full bite force can be safely applied.
What’s “Teeth in a Day”?
With the new advances in Implantology, a new approach called “immediate loading”, commonly known as “teeth in a day”, has been developed. It consists of placing the implants and their temporary crowns on the SAME DAY.
The Same Day treatment protocol means that the patients can have their implants and teeth placed all in the same day as opposed to the conventional technique where the dental implants are loaded with teeth usually two to three months later.
Can I remove my tooth and place an implant immediately?
Absolutely! This procedure is called “immediate implantation”. It consists of removing the tooth, cleaning the infection and placing the implant, all at the same time.
This process only requires a one-time appointment for the patient. Long gone are the 3 to 6 months waiting periods of bone healing before placing the implant. Like any procedure, though, there can be limitations. If the bone volume after removing the tooth is not enough, we might need to postpone the placement of the implant.
